Literacy at Springfield Gardens Primary targets all learners and is designed to ensure learners understand, develop and practice their literacy skills. All Kinder to Grade 6 classes engage in 2 hours of sustained Literacy Learning each day. Learners begin developing their literacy skills through our comprehensive synthetic phonics program, where they develop phonological awareness through explicit teaching of phonics. Our multisensory approach supports a range of learners with different learning styles. This supports learners to be confident Readers and Writers from early in their Primary years.
Literacy at Springfield Gardens Primary has targeted intervention, for Reading and Writing, for all learners in Prep to Grade 6. We value the importance of supporting all learners to build and receive extension opportunities within the Reading and Writing disciplines.
The teaching staff at Springfield Gardens Primary engage in fortnightly Professional Learning Communities to further develop and enhance their skills in teaching literacy. Teachers plan and deliver the Australian Curriculum content, engage in targeted professional learning and learn about best practice in Literacy Teaching with the support of a Literacy Specialist.
